About
Artist Statement
I have been interested in the mythology of Ireland, and the folklore and culture that developed from it for as long as I can remember.
I believe that this myth and folklore is intrinsically linked to the land and people of Ireland, even if much of Ireland has made an effort to move into the modern day and leave it behind.
Our cultural heritage is still there, living within us and growing and changing as our culture does too. I want to express in my art the nuances of this, from the ancient myths, to the tales of the Sidhe and the fae, to the piseogs and the superstitions that people still follow today.
I began my practice focused heavily on traditional printmaking, but as my practice developed so did my techniques, and I now employ multiple mediums express my work.
I aim to grasp the all-encompassing nature of the folklore of Ireland, and immerse the viewer in the realm between worlds, the place where the old gods of Ireland retreated to when they were no longer needed, combining the ancient and modern Ireland.
I hope to create in the viewer urge to look into the rich mythology of our home, and to understand the past influences the present but does not hold us back
